The classic email of the day, brightening my inbox this morning (thank you, Dimitrios, wherever you are):
As i have experience in graphic design, i believe the new logo is more suitable for a new Durex condom than a Linux distribution. Let me explain, the font you are using reminds people of something shiny, rubbery and roundish. It’s far from what a Linux distribution should be about.
Oh, I dunno. Maybe it’s precisely what a Linux distribution should be about: the perfect mix of fun and security. Quoting Paul Nasrat: “Fedora! Extra protection with execshield, SELinux and friends!”
You know, there are companies that build entire marketing campaigns around this kind of messaging. As Jesse Keating pointed out, “BitDefender gave out anti-virus devices at the last LWCE. They were condoms.”
The best part: he even sent a mockup, wherein he replaced the “o” in Fedora with a condom. Absolutely brilliant.
I’ll file this under “the wisdom of crowds.” And no, the logo still isn’t changing.
