Tomorrow I’ll be demoing OLPC for the nice folks at TriLUG — which means that tonight I’m finishing the presentation. It will be a first draft of many to come — and I’ve been doing a lot of reading to prepare for it.
I’ll tell you who really gets the information problem in Africa: the Carnegie folks. Really good background for understanding some of the problems that OLPC is designed to address — especially the articles about Carnegie’s international development efforts.
My favorite quote of the day: “Americans have such a wealth of informational resource—books, periodicals and hundreds of television stations—that they sometimes seek shelter from the punishing hail of media that falls here. Africans enjoy no such luxury—which is precisely why the Internet is so important to Africa.”
